Mary-Jane Addison

M.J. was raised in Kelowna B.C. and had made a move to the Comox Valley in the fall of 2020 to be closer to her family. M.J. draws her strength from motivating and empowering others for positive change while she continues to enhance her own knowledge and skill set with current and new evidence-based therapies. M.J. finds solace in being close to the ocean and nature. Her interests include exploring the outdoors, yoga, forest walks, and travelling. She finds life’s balance in her continual learning, yoga and friendships.

M.J. is a Registered Social Worker who graduated 2003 from the University of British Columbia Okanagan, where she holds a degree in Social Work. She is a member in good standing of the British Columbia College of Social Work (BCRSW) and the B.C. Association of Social Workers (BCASW). M.J. is a compassionate, engaging and skilled counsellor.

M.J. offers a safe, supportive non-judgemental space to assist one in expressing their feelings and work through any issues more objectively. M.J. uses a strength based, client centered approach while practicing empathy and accepting a client for who they are. M.J. uses motivational interviewing, a biopsychosocial lens, while operating from humanistic, ethnic sensitive approach. M.J has as a focus on narrative, Satir, Attachment and Solution Focused models.

Professionally M.J. is passionate about working with people whom have experienced any form of trauma, intimate partner violence, relationships, compassion fatigue, grief & loss, expected and unexpected life transitions. MJ has had extensive experience working with women, young parents, and seniors in stressful situations, as well, people experiencing caregiver burnout. She prefers working with adults, couples and seniors.
